WikiLeaks Cables Confirm Climate Skeptics' Fears -

.
http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/wikileaks-cables-confirm-the-worst-fears-of-climate-skeptics/?singlepage=true

Just a year ago, the Climategate files — a collection of emails, data, and computer source code — were somehow purloined from the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit and made public. Pajamas Media was one of the first news organizations to cover them, with the first breaking news story out within hours of their first discovery (“Hacker Releases Data Implicating CRU in Global Warming Fraud“).

The full consequences are not yet clear, but the files’ release probably led to the collapse of the Copenhagen climate conference — to which the Obama administration had committed no little amount of political capital — and certainly contributed to the public’s increasing skepticism about the supposed consensus of climate science.

In some ways, the most surprising part of the Climategate files was how well they confirmed the dark suspicions of climate skeptics: there really were problems with replicating some of the most quoted results, there really had been some questionable manipulations made so the data would present the “right” picture, and there really was a somewhat covert group, composed of scientists on the “human agency” side of the argument and certain “reliable” environmental journalists, who were working together to suppress counter-evidence and assassinate the reputations of the skeptics.

Almost exactly a year later, Julius Assange and the WikiLeaks website revealed another collection of similarly purloined data. This time, the data was a collection of diplomatic cable traffic among American diplomats all over the world, some of it considered very sensitive — classified SECRET. Again, the purloined messages proved very embarrassing to the authors, although in this case the damage wasn’t just to egos and reputations; the cables did damage to American interests, even to national security.

On December 3rd, the Guardian newspaper in the United Kingdom published one of a series of stories based on the cables, this one titled “WikiLeaks cables reveal how U.S. manipulated climate accord.” The United States really was applying considerable political and diplomatic pressure on other players; the scientific “consensus” had long since been subsumed by the pressure to score a political win. As the Guardian put it:

Hidden behind the save-the-world rhetoric of the global climate change negotiations lies the mucky realpolitik: money and threats buy political support; spying and cyberwarfare are used to seek out leverage.

The bribes — sorry, I mean promised aid — was no mean amount of money. The Guardian reports amounts in the tens and hundreds of millions of dollars. The government of the Maldives set their price at $30 million. With a population of roughly 300,000, that is $100 per person in a country where the average household gets by on $450 a year.

This pressure, however, wasn’t limited to financial transactions: the United States was developing intelligence on the other participants in the conferences.

Seeking negotiating chips, the U.S. State Department sent a secret cable on July 31, 2009, seeking human intelligence from UN diplomats across a range of issues, including climate change. The request originated with the CIA. As well as countries’ negotiating positions for Copenhagen, diplomats were asked to provide evidence of UN environmental “treaty circumvention” and deals between nations.

At the same time, foreign powers — most probably at least including the People’s Republic of China — used sophisticated social engineering and cyberwar methods to get leverage in the upcoming negotiations.

On June 19, 2009, the State Department sent a cable detailing a “spear phishing” attack on the office of the U.S. climate change envoy … while talks with China on emissions took place in Beijing.

“Spear phishing” is an attack in which a carefully customized email message to a particular person, including personal information and promising something sure to be of interest to the recipient, is used to introduce a “Trojan horse” program, and while the cables don’t actually identify the suspects, it’s the same style of attack, and exactly the same exploit, that the Chinese used on Google.

The Guardian article is an amusing exercise in cognitive dissonance. The CIA wanted to collect intelligence on the other participants: CIA, ooh, bad! But it was to push through the global warming treaty. Wait. Global warming treaty, oooh, good! The Guardian writers clearly had some trouble deciding what they really thought.

By the time the Copenhagen conference came around, domestic political considerations inside the Obama administration had far outweighed whatever scientific basis originally drove the negotiations. On the other side of the table, pious public mouthing of global-warming dogma was replaced by straight-out monetary transactions: if you want our agreement, come up with the most cash. And China, South Africa, Brazil, and India were working the process with both politics and less savory means, to make sure they had the leverage to get what they wanted.

The lesson of the WikiLeaks climate cables turns out to be very much like the lesson of the Climategate files last year. The most surprising aspect of this story is how thoroughly the cables confirm the dark suspicions of climate skeptics.

Carbon Trade Ends on Quiet Death of Chicago Climate Exchange-John O’Sullivan

.
By John O’Sullivan
Published Nov 7, 2010
Suite101

Republican mid-term election joy deals financial uncertainty among green investors as the Chicago Climate Exchange announces the end of U.S. carbon trading.

The Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) announced on October 21, 2010 that it will cease carbon trading this year. However, Steve Milloy reporting on Pajamasmedia.com (November 6, 2010) finds this huge story strangely unreported by the mainstream media.

To some key analysts the collapse of the CCX appears to show that international carbon trading is “dying a quiet death.” Yet Milloy finds that such a major business failure has drawn no interest at all from the mainstream media. Milloy noted that a “Nexis search conducted a week after CCX’s announcement revealed no news articles published about its demise.”

Not until November 02, 2010 had the story even been picked up briefly and that was by Chicagobusiness.com (Crain’s). Reporter, Paul Merrion appeared to find some comfort that while CCX will cease all trading of new emission allowances at the end of the year, “it will continue trading carbon offsets generated by projects that consume greenhouse gases, such as planting trees.”

Collapse is Personal Setback for U.S. President

Barack Obama was a board member of the Joyce Foundation that funded the fledgling CCX. Professor Richard Sandor, of Northwestern University had started the business with $1.1 million in grants from the Chicago-based left-wing Joyce Foundation enthusiastically endorsed by Obama. When founded in November 2000, CCX’s carbon trading market was predicted to grow anywhere between $500 billion and $10 trillion. Fortunately before its collapse Sandor was able to net $98.5 million for his 16.5% stake when CCX was sold.

Climate Deal unlikely this year - Skirmishes at UN climate conference

.
Excerpts From Fox News - April 11, 2010

Climate talks had nearly ground to a halt in April, with delegates squabbling over how to conduct negotiations for the rest of the year on a new agreement to control global warming.

The talks about talks appeared near breakdown over minor procedures, but that was because of a deep divide over the hastily crafted political deal struck at the Copenhagen last December by President Barack Obama and a small group of other world leaders.

There you go. Our arrogant president, making things easy for everyone...yet again.

The lengthy battle was supposedly over the authorization of a committee chairwoman to prepare a draft negotiating text for the next meeting in June. But down deep, the rancor during Copenhagen had not faded and the split between industrial and developing countries continues.

The agreement they are trying to prepare for is meant to succeed the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which had provisions capping greenhouse gas emissions in developed countries. It expires in 2012. The new deal would be expanded to include emissions by swiftly developing countries like China, which has already passed the US as the world's biggest polluter.

The Copenhagen "accord," thrown together in the final 36 hours at Copenhagen, now means little or nothing to anyone. It set a goal of limiting the increase in the Earth's average temperature to below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) from preindustrial levels, but did not specify how that would be done.

Of course not. That would take actual thought. Obama and the others were only there to look good for the cameras.

Many countries — even among the 120 countries that supported the Copenhagen Accord — denounced the closed-door manner in which it was done (although that was standard operating procedure for Obama) and voiced disappointment that its emissions requirements were voluntary.

Bolivian delegate Pablo Solon also protested the cutoff of funds from the U.S. Global Climate Change initiative as "a very bad practice" and an attempt to put pressure countries to support the agreement. Solon said Bolivia would not change its policies.

So...American citizens aren't the only ones feeling forced into things by Obama...

Jail the Faux Scientists - Climategate: Senator Ask for DOJ Investigation

.
Excerpts from Pajamas Media - February 21, 2010- by Charlie Martin

Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) asked the Obama administration to investigate what he called “the greatest scientific scandal of our generation” — ie Climategate: the actions of climate scientists and admissions by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Dr. Michael Mann of Pennsylvania State University and Dr. James Hansen of Columbia University and the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies are both of interest.

- Yeah, like the Obama Administration would do that.

Senator Inhofe also asked that Al Gore to be called back to the Senate to testify. Inhofe said, “In [Gore's] science fiction movie, every assertion has been rebutted.”

- Well, that slime bucket will never subject himself to honest scrutiny. He'll only attend functions where he knows no one will confront him.

According to Pajamas Media, the Senator Inhofe minority staff report from the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee alleges:

"[The] Minority Staff of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works believe the scientists involved may have violated fundamental ethical principles governing taxpayer-funded research and, in some cases, federal laws. In addition to these findings, we believe the emails and accompanying documents seriously compromise the IPCC -backed “consensus” and its central conclusion that anthropogenic emissions are inexorably leading to environmental catastrophes."
According to Pajamas Media,
"The exposure of the "Climategate files" - ie leaked emails - has led to a reexamination of the IPCC Assessment Reports, especially the fourth report (AR4), published in 2007. The IPCC AR4 report was named by Environmental Protection Agency head Lisa Jackson as one of the major sources of scientific support for the agency’s Endangerment Finding, the first step towards allowing the EPA to regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant."
The IPCC has been forced to retract a number of conclusions — such as that Himalayan glaciers would disappear by 2035 -  and has been forced to admit that the report was based on reports from environmental activist groups instead of peer-reviewed scientific research.

Dr. Murari Lal, editor of the IPCC AR4 report, admitted to the London Daily Mail that he had known the 2035 date was false, but was included in the report anyway “purely to put political pressure on world leaders.”

Senator Inhofe wants an investigation into research misconduct and criminal acts by the researchers. Further, Inhofe wants the EPA to drop its "Finding" that carbon dioxide is a pollutant and Congress to withdraw funding for consideration of carbon dioxide as a pollutant.

- Of all the stupid, ridiculous things the EPA and Congress have ever done...What was next, deeming all humans and animals major polluters for breathing out CO2??

The staff report noted the four major issues revealed by Climategate:

1.Scientists cooperated to obstruct the release of information and counter-evidence.
2.Scientists manipulated data to reach predetermined conclusions.
3.Scientists colluded to pressure journal editors not to publish work questioning the “consensus.”
4.Scientists involved in the report assumed the role of climate activists attempting to influence public opinion while claiming scientific objectivity.
The report also notes potential legal issues raised by Climategate:

1.Scientific misconduct may violate the Shelby Amendment — requiring open access to the results of government-funded research — and the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) policies on scientific misconduct.
2.Potential for violations of the Federal False Statements and False Claims Acts, which may have both civil and criminal penalties.
3.Possibility of an obstruction of Congress in congressional proceeds, which may constitute an obstruction of justice.
If proven, these charges could debar the Scientists from federally funded research and maybe to criminal penalties.

- Are you kidding me? You mean there's a chance that they WON'T go to jail??)

Dr. Phil Jones of the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit has already been forced to step aside because of the Climategate FOIA issues, and Dr. Michael Mann of Penn State is currently under investigation by the university for potential misconduct.

Senator Inhofe believes Dr. Hansen and Dr. Mann should be “let go” from their posts “for the good of the institutions involved.”

- Excuse me, Senator Inhofe, but the lies of these men have affected the entire world. I pray that the conservatives in our government won't allow them to walk away with a slap on the hand.

- Of course, the Obama Administration probably won't even acknowledge Senator Inhofe's appeal. The Democratic majority has blocked previous attempts by Inhofe to investigate issues with climate science. We might have to wait and hope for a new administration before justice is done.

Obama Decides Congress Won't do Immigration Bill Right Away

.
What happened to Separation of Powers? Why is Obama in Control of the Congressional Agenda?

Obama says that there "may not be an appetite" in Congress to deal with immigration after last months fight over Health care.

Well, here we are, with the one issue that truly IS Congresses job to address, and they don't have the guts to do the work. Well, if they hadn't wasted the last year taking care of business that wasn't theirs to take care of...like...throwing our money at car companies and banks...and forcing health legislation on us...maybe they would have the stomach to do their real job: protecting our borders.

Then Obama says he "didn't want to force an immigration bill through Congress "just for the sake of politics."

OMG you have got to be kidding me. He has spent his entire term so far stuffing things down our throats for the sake of politics. Why should he stop now? Because we are so angry and we don't want the immigration bill that he wants to offer?

Further, finally dealing with the problems at our southern border isn't "just for the sake of politics." What's wrong with this guy? Dealing with the borders is a necessity - a long overdue necessity!

I can't wait til we can impeach this guy.

Obama Calls in his Campaign Manager??

.
What is this? Obama is in trouble for lying to the country, trying to push legislation down the people's throats, staffing the White House with socialists and communists, and causing the Democratic Party to take a nose dive - and he responds, not by changing his direction, or bringing in new, non-communist people to take lead positions in the administration; he brings in his old campaign manager, David Plouffe. A political consultant? What?

National Tea Party Coalition Announces “Hall Pass on That” for September 8th Presidential Address

.

National Tea Party Coalition Announces “Hall Pass on That” for September 8th Presidential Address

The Nationwide Tea Party Coalition announces “Hall Pass on That,” the alternative to President Barack Obama’s September 8th address to school children across the nation. The group asks that schools who choose to participate in the president’s September 8th program offer an alternative to students and families who do not wish to view, or have their children view, a partisan address or participate in activities that did not follow proper educational protocol or obtain parental consent.

Dana Loesch, Nationwide spokesperson for the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, announced the launch of the Hall Pass on That website: http://www.hallpassonthat.com to provide parents who oppose the Department of Education’s proposed presidential program. “We are suggesting several action steps parents can take if they do not approve of their children participating in a partisan presentation conducted without their consent.” The four steps propose by the Coalition:

1. Contact the child’s school to find out whether or not your school is
participating in the president’s September 8th program.
2. If your child’s school is participating, ask what alternatives there are for the children of families who wish their students learn about the establishment of the country respective to the Founding Father’s intentions. Discussion can focus on the
Constitution, the definition and actions of a republic, and the responsibility
of elected leaders to their constituents.
3. Ask if the school can excuse your child from the presentation and instead receive a DVD of the address and copy of the activity directives to be evaluated by parents at a later date.
4. Request meeting with the school board, superintendent, and principal to
inquire as to why parents were excluded from the decision-making process of this
event.

Katrina Pierson, member of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, described some of the tools available http://www.hallpassonthat.com: “We will provide alternative lesson plans to the ones initially sent out by President Obama’s Department of Education. Those plans, which people can download from the site, were uncomfortably partisan with no real focus on how our officials serve the people, not vice-versa. Our alternative lesson plans also focus appropriately on the role of parents in the education plan for every child.”

Yes, presidents have spoken to schoolchildren before, but when circumstances required it. President Ronald Reagan addressed students after the Challenger shuttle disaster was witnessed live by millions of schoolchildren; George H. W. Bush addressed students as part of the effort to counteract the growing drug use by schoolchildren.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan issued directives to principals of locals schools, bypassing the school boards and superintendents of those districts – but most importantly, bypassing parental notification or consent. Conservative parents are further concerned as the material issued by the Department of Education focuses on the president’s partisan agenda. The responsibility of this nation’s government to its people is completely obscured by questions that strictly detail response and submission to the president’s wishes.

Parents are also concerned as the entire program was crafted with help from the president’s White House Teaching Fellows, some of whom are activists with documented hostility towards the very tenants of our republic.

The Nationwide Tea Party Coalition cannot afford to extend this administration the courtesy of any doubt when it comes to the education of our children and our schools are not the place to present one-sided agendas, especially without parental consent.

Glenn Beck is wrong about many Independents

.
I agree with Glenn Beck on most issues and appreciate his sincerity. But he's wrong to say that independents are socially liberal and have left the Republicans because they are too conservative. That's just plain wrong. I'm a socially conservative independent who drifted away from the Republican Party because they aren't conservative enough, and there are many of us who have done so.

I think his guest, who wrote the book "independent nation," must be socially liberal and saw what he wanted to see in the independent movement. Either that, or he's claiming they are liberal because that's the what he wants us to think.

It is wrong for Glenn and his guest to assume that many of the Tea Party participants are socially liberal. There were no polls taken on those issues at the Tea Parties, which were billed as non-partisan so as not to make the social controversies an issue. So it's impossible for Glen to assume that most of the participants were socially liberal.

Many of the Participants that I know are socially conservative. And many have left the Republican party because it isn't conservative enough. That's what being independent is all about. We're independent. Being "independent" isn't a party with a platform. You CAN'T label us one way or the other.

Being independent means that when we do vote, we vote for the person we think will represent us the best, no matter what party they are in. So it turned my stomach to hear Beck and his guest say that independents like Barak Obama. Not any of the independents I know. We don't like him on any aspect of the issues. We liked Sarah Palin. Some of us left the Republican Party because of the way they treated her. There are other Republican governors that we like as well, and we might still yet vote for them in the next elections. But the party and its leadership -phooey. We 're done with them.

If Glenn wants to claim the independents as a group that are in agreement with him on social issues, (as he refered to independents as "we"), then maybe those of us that are socially conservative will just have to find a different name for ourselves. Glenn - Don't worry about us co-opting what you feel is your movement. But we aren't going to become liberal simply because it is claimed that this is what independents are. We want someone to represent us that is truly conservative.

Petition Against Obama's Reckless Legislation

.
I recieved this letter from a friend today:

"I am sending this out to some people on my list who profess to adhere to Christian principles or those principles that are similar. As you know, America is in trouble. We now have an administration that is taking advantage of this economic crisis to fund social re-engineering projects under the pretense of “economic stimulus” with no financial basis from which to draw the money being handed out. We are seeing a huge percentage of funds in these early hand-outs going to efforts that will continue to erode the freedoms we now enjoy.

"I normally do not send out a petition like this. In fact, I am often skeptical of them or their effectiveness, but my mind is changing. We are called to peacefully petition our government for righteousness and justice. This is an opportunity. A simple signature on this petition is one more effort to accomplish that. And, passing it on to others you know with similar adherence to the principles of a limited republic established by our founders will allow them to express their position.

"Though we would like to separate abortion, the subject of this petition, from “the economy”, we cannot. And the administration is showing it will not. As Francis Schafer taught us more than 30 years ago, “Abortion leads to infanticide and infanticide leads to genocide.” It happened in Germany and is happening in America.

"With the unfolding of current events as rapidly as they are, this is our first step in resistance to evil. The next step is currently brewing around the United States. I am reading of “tea parties” (open resistance to this massive government spending and taxing) that are already scheduled in over 2,000 cities across the US for tax day, April 15. If we ignore our government‘s actions via methods like this simple petition, we will then be given the opportunity to also ignore the increasingly open rebellion that is brewing. It is best to peacefully resist in favor of freedom, always first and whenever possible. I fear that if we do not, we will be facing the same thing German citizens did prior to Hitler’s rise to power. That rise became unstoppable because the church not only stood aside but often endorsed Mr. Hitler’s philosophies and ultimately his actions of genocide. Few resisted and though there were others, Dietrich Bonhoeffer is the only name that comes to mind. Do I say genocide is coming to America? All I can say is that we are following the same trail and I believe we need to resist every attempt to take our freedoms away unless, like the German people and the illustrated frog in slowly heating water, we wake up one day seeing a cauldron around us and wonder whatever might have caused this?

"If you do not live in the States, I suggest you forward this on to those who you know do.

"President Elect Obama said during the campaign that one of the first things he wanted to do was sign Foca (Freedom of Choice Act) into law.

"Foca would lift all restrictions on abortions.

It would force all faith based hospitals to perform abortions. Christian Doctors would be forced to do abortions even if they felt it was wrong, because it would now be law. The Parents of younger girls would not need to be notified. And lots more. We need to sign the petition against F.O.C.A. Please go to http://www.fightfoca.com/ and sign the petition. Thank you.
.
Sincerely,

Russ Wahl"

OMG! Obama and his People are Destroying US

.
Starting with Obama's decision to move the 2010 census into the White House where Obama's people can change the numbers, to firing an Auto CEO - the CEO of a private company - to telling companies what they can and can't do with their legal contracts, telling car companies what kinds of cars they can and can't make, telling the car companies that the White House will decide who the members of the car company board will be, and finally the bail out money that frightened banks now can not return even if they want to.

Now there is talk of mandatory "volunteer" programs for teen agers. Knowing a wide spectrum of teenagers and their personalities, I have to wonder how the government would make a "volunteer" program work; ie who would supervise it, what kind of "educating" would be included, how far they would go to enforce participation, and how much the volunteer program would end up costing.

The current social climate is more scary to me that the global warming climate.

Obama's behavior in London has been absolutely embarrassing. He thinks he's not only the king of America, but that the rest of the world should bow to him as well. I can't believe he's given the Queen of England an ipod with his speeches on it. What a self-absorbed child! His driver had also parked in such a way that blocked other vehicles from entering, including prince Charles' car! He had to be told to move it. And then Obama's wife, against protocol, put her arm around the Queen of England! The rest of the world leaders certainly seem to be irritated by Obama at this G20 conference.

Obama and his people are on a road to doing serious damage to our country. They are children playing adult. We all need to scream at our Congress people and Obama, and do it right away because they are voting on the budget today or tomorrow - and get as many others to scream as well.

For a complete list of contact information for Congress, Obama, his cabinet, and 40 top Obama aides, go to www.Data-aide.com. Get the Contact info and share it with your friends.

This administration is going to continue to steam roll over everyone unless people start to scream. Wake up People!
